Transmedia show

The transmedia show is a show that showcases digital media students from first year all the way up to masters. This project was a group project given to me so that I could, develop an understanding of how to analyse a brief, gain the ability to understand a client’s business, seek out and respond constructively to advice or feedback from appropriate people, demonstrate teamwork skills, including effective communication, conflict resolution, decision-making skills and taking ownership of group and independent work.

The brief of the project was to create the design side of the project, my contribution was to design some of the branding. I created the logo and brand-guidelines. My team and I started by coming up with a theme for the show and a teammate came up with the idea that we should base our branding off the London underground tube map. The main idea was to use this theme to show that not every creator’s journey is the same.

After the theme was decided I chose the colour scheme, the chosen colours are the same as the tube map lines. I chose 5 primary colours so that each discipline would have its own colour. I next started with designing the logo. I looked at other designs that were created using the theme of the underground tube map and advertisement used to promote the underground. After that I drew a few sketches an went straight to illustrator. I came up with the idea of having the logo be the word transmedia and each letter have a different colour and design. My team and I then had to present what we had come up with so far and I got some feedback on my logo. I was told that some of the lines in the logo are too thin and that although some of the colours are a part of the colour scheme, I should stick to using the primary colours I had chosen. I then made those changes and came up with the final logo, I also made an alternative version. I believe that my final outcome of the logo went very well, the only thing I would change is probably my process I should have done more sketch’s and tried a few more designs of the logo so that we could have had a variety to choose from and fully determine what the best logo is for the brand.

The other feedback we got in our presentation was to do some research on the person who designed the tube map, and we were told that our work looked like 5 people were given a brief and did not talk to each about what way to go about it. After this meeting we had a team meeting and talked about all the things we needed to change, reassigned some tasks and I decided to take on the research about Henry Beck the creator of the tube map. Beck decided that the tube map should not be geographically correct this is because he assumed that passengers were more worried about how to exit the station.

I next worked on the brand-guidelines, the design of the brand-guidelines was my task but my team and I sat together and came up with the brands values, story and personality.

Our event has been created to showcase student work and skills. We have them set up a booth and give them the resources and materials they need to show the projects they have worked on for the semester. We also want the students to use this as a networking event. We invite all sorts of people, industry level, students from other universities, family, and friends. We also want our students to leave our event having learnt something new, as we allow them time to go and see the other students work in hopes that they will all teach each other a new skill or show each other another program to create from.

Our mission is to help the students build a network, this is important because it leads to the exchange of ideas and the students can connect with industry level people. We also want our event to create and or boost a sense of achievement for students.

Our core values are: Collaboration – We would like to help our students to level up and work on their collaboration skills. Confidence – We want to boost students’ confidence.Belonging – We want to build a sense of belong for students.

The brand guidelines were very simple I feel that I could have done more, I should have contacted the client more about some things to get the input and so I could create and understanding of the client’s business.

I still need to work on my research skills, for future projects. I will work on this by researching designers that have inspired the theme or design I am working on. Branding skill also needs mor work, mainly the brand guidelines, I should have gone into more detail so that the next designers have much more of a guide to go from. My time management skills have improved because the after my team and I set our task we all said how long they would take us and I met my goals, and I think this was mainly because I knew I had my team waiting on my so their could get started on their designs.
